I swear by Coconut oil for yeast rash.  It's the only thing that worked for our thrush and you name it, I tried it.  I've used it on myself and my 2yo who has reccurent rashes (not sure if they are yeast, but it works).  HTH

Eden Salve.  It's the only thing that worked for DS, and he was on a candida cleanse.  He'd had the yeast rash so long it was starting to scar,   and the skin was peeling.  I tried GOOT, yogurt, coconut oil, OTC yeast creams, antifungals, you name it.  Within two applications of Eden Salve, it was healing.  Now it's gone and hasn't come back! I will try and post later what I did.   I'm sick today with a stomach bug.    Tongue

Feeling much better.   Smiley
Make sure you are using a detergent that is not irritating your baby's bottom.   Also,   make sure you are rinsing your diapers well enough.   I have a FL washer and they conserve water, not good for diapers.    So, I was told to first of all,  wash the diapers with just cold water,  on a short cycle.   Then do another wash with detergent, then do a wash cycle again on cold,  to rinse.    My baby still had rash problems, and it got to the point where I was only able to wear wool diaper covers on her.  As long as I used a  wool cover, her  rash would clear  up, wool is amazing!    So,   this is what  I did,  I  bought some soap nuts and use them  to wash my diapers now.    I also, now only  put my diapers through a rinse on cold, then I wash them on hot/cold and extra rinse cycle , and they are done.  My diapers come out clean and smell clean too, and they actually don't stink anymore as soon as she wets in them.   She would still get a tiny bit of rash, I'm thinking it may just  take some washes to get the old soap out,  I had been using.
If I hang the diapers  out to dry though, she won't  get a rash at all.    So, I thought maybe there are some bacteria that get killed by hanging them in the sun and not by just using the dryer.  I started using  Shaklee Basic-G  it kills germs and bacteria ,  using this has helped so much,   that I can actually use a cover now that is not wool.   I still prefer using wool though, as it lets her skin breath
It is time for me to be in bed, and I hope this is helpful information for you.   Smiley

My baby getting a rash again since she has been two days in a pul cover.   I guess I haven't figured out why yet afterall.    Tongue     My wool covers are washed and hanging outside to dry, otherwise she would be wearing wool.   She has no rash problem if I wear a wool cover on her.   Guess I might as well sell all my covers that aren't wool.

my baby's bottom is getting a bit better.  She's had 3 sea salt soaks and one TTU application and one stint of "airing out" ... not in that order either.  I think I need to focus on probiotics for my ummm self  now because I am getting sore   Sad

I thought of putting yogurt on DD's bottom for a yeast rash. Is it possible to make yogurt cheese and use that? Or does it lose its 'power' when you strain out the liquid?? Thanks!

My youngest son has a bad rash from being on amoxicillin for an ear infection. His very last dose is tomorrow..finally! I'm not sure what to try..I've been using zinc oxide..& vaseline...even dabbed some triple antibiotic ointment on the red/bleeding spots. I'm going to let him run around bare tomorrow for a while..do you think it will clear up after the meds are finished?? Is it yeast? I did put yogurt on his bottom yesterday..it seemed to sooth him. He seemed a little confused about that though..(Mom..I'm supposed to eat that ya know LOL)

If it is from the amoxicillin then you need to give your doc a call.  He will want to note the rash on your son's chart and may want to see it.  My daughter had a rash with a sulfa drug and he had her continue the meds, but the rashes became plate sized spots all over so he had to discontinue it.  Anyway, he said that she should not take that particular drug in the future and made a note on her chart.  Also the rash disappeared within 24 hours of stopping the medicine.

Sounds like yeast to me.  EV Coconut oil works wonders on any rash in the diaper.  Also, I've done baking soda in the bath water to help soothe the bottom.

I don't know if this a rash or something else.

My son's p**nis is covered with fluid filled blisters, reddish, and irritated looking.  The openin looks irrtated too  Shocked  The rest of his skin, even scrot**m is fine.  He has been in cloth diapers since January, and I haven't changed how we do anything, so I don't think that is it.  He did start crawlin this weekend, about the same time this showed up, so could it be irritation?  I put eden salve on it and in 36 hours it was basically gone, only to find it again this morning- swollen and irritated and a little blistery.  He was up at 4am upset this mornin too, not sure if that is related.

A doc friend looked at it when if first showed up and looked very blistery0 he had never seen anythin like that but thought my tx't was good and gave some things to watch for.

Well, it looked so bad I called my doc and he saw him right away.  He was "impressed" very much.  NOT a good term in the medical field.  He was also stumped.  We concluded that my son is obviously irritated by something, possibly the hemp diapers I use at bedtime???, and it is now infected- very red, swollen, blistery, etc.  Everyone medical was baffled by the water blisters.  All that to say, my son is getting his first dose of antibiotics (it is well warranted here, imo) and I am stripping the diapers again- which I've done periodically anyway.  BUT, eden salve DID take the swelling WAY down (at leasat half) in just a few hours.  The doc WAS very surprised and happy to hear that.  Instead of prescribing something topically as well, he said to keep using that salve.  That was a BIG surprise coming from him. Smiley   So, THANK YOU Shoshanna!!!   Grin

If anyone else has seen such a thing I would still appreciate hearin about it.

I read something on this thread before about fungal rashes.  When my ds had a rash in the fold of his leg that looked liked a popped blister, I couldn't figure out what else it could be.  It went away after 4-5 days with coconut oil (when nothing else had worked), so I know it was fungal.

You might try the coconut oil and see if it helps.  If so, there's your answer.  If not, I'm just as stumped as the doctor! Smiley

I am having a problem similar to RBs.  My 10mo old is getting a red rash every time I put her in a vinyl diaper cover.  I don't have a wool cover to try that theory, but if I put her in a disposable, she clears up quite quickly.  I have BumGenius diapers and prefolds with prowraps and if she is in them for even just two diaper changes her bottom gets bright red. When it first started happening, it was only on her leg where the gussets touched her (and only on her right let... go figure).  Now it happens on her legs and all accross her front.  I use a plantain ointment and it only works if I switch to disposables.  I can't kick it while she wears cloth.  Once in a disposable, the rash then acts like a sunburn and eventually peals and then is gone.  I originally thought it was the detergent, so I switched to Allens which helped, but didn't cure.  Is there such thing as an allergy to the diaper cover itself?  Anyone else have any suggestions?  I don't want to go back to disposables!!!

My guess is your dd has extremely sensitive skin.  It's not that she's allergic to the cloth so much as the second it gets wet and the wet hits her skin she breaks out.  My son and one dd were so sensitive to wet or messy diapers that if I didn't change them within minutes of them wetting or pooping their they had horrible rashes nearly instantly.  The best thing I did to help prevent it was smear them with bag balm each time I changed them.  That at least held the moisture off their skin long enough for me to get them changed without rashing.  They did outgrow it when they potty trained.   Grin Grin Cheesy

The same thing happened when I put a vinyl diaper cover over my ds's underpants when I was potty training him.  The vinyl can't breathe and he would instantly get a rash (even if he was dry).  Bottom line with that is you just can't use vinyl diaper covers.  They do have others but I don't have enough experience to know what works in that realm.

  here-n-there-a-little ,

My baby is rash free as long as I wear  wool covers on her.    She has very sensitive skin, I can't even wear "natural"  disposables on her,  caused  her a worse rash   then my cloth.    Shocked     I do believe  she is allergic to PUL covers,  as she  gets a red burn like rash where ever the cover touches  bare skin.   The nylon covers don't cause as much of a problem though, but   I just mostly  wear her little beetle wool  shorts and they look so cute with a tee shirt, perfect for summer.    Smiley     I also try to change her diapers as soon as she wets in them and now she hates being wet (makes for easy potty training later)   and will fuss.

You could also try washing your diapers and covers  using soap nuts and see if that helps.

Thanks RB.  I might be mislabeling 'vinyl'.  I use Prowraps, which I think might actuallybe pul???  I am not sure.  I know the BumGenius has pul.

I've actually washed the covers in the new Allens detergent.  Are soap nuts more of a hypo-alergenic type of detergent?

I am not excited about buying something new when I am not positive it will cure the problem.  But, my theory had been that she was sensitive to the covers and hearing someone else with the same problem kindof supports that.  Hmmm.  So the next question is where can I find a wool cover that won't make me go broke and won't be irritating to her skin.  I personally cannot stand wearing wool.  But, someone told me it was because it was processed too much and had lost its lanolin.  Could someone PM me and give me a direction on where to buy the right wool covers?  Ones that maybe they use, and llike, and that have the lanolin remaining?

I thought we needed to be careful of lanolin as a potential eczema trigger.

Came across this site that showed it as an irritant

I jus ent to a cloth diaper swap last week and a women there buys biobottoms. They are very cute woll covers. She said they were 20 or so bucks, but you don't need that many because they don't get that wet an you hang them out int he sun to dry when they do get too wet. Teh sun the bleaches and kills bacteria and such.

Okay, in addition. I would use coconut oil on her bum each time you change her. This will kill any bacteria that may be growing. I buy it from a website Tropical Traditions.
Also, get a hold of some kefir if you are not making it yet. There is a thread to tell you all about it. This will help her intestines get good bacteria in her body and hopefully make her less sensative to environmental allergies. I have some grains if you need them to start. Just let me know.

HIGHLIGHTS: Biobottom wool covers, coconut oil as a ointment, and kefir to drink.

This could be an allergic reaction, but the description of the rash sounds more like yeast to me.  I'm thinking that maybe it clears up when using disposables because the diapers are better at keeping skin dry after wetting than cloth and therefore are less likely to encourage yeast to grow?  Have you tried allowing baby to run naked to encourage healing?  Does this make a difference?  Have you tried other antifungal treatments or drying agents such as cornstarch?  Does it occur when you use cloth but no cover?  Just some thoughts to help you figure this out.

I don't know if this has been said before, but you can make diaper rash cream. We battled yeast/diaper rashes with our youngest for 6 weeks. Her bottom was bloody. Cry I felt so bad for her. After 2 tubes of Nystatin, I made up my own.
I used olive oil. Then added slippery elm bark powder until it is the consistency of cream. Added a good probiotic after that. We applied it to her bum and within 4 days it was completely healed.
We have had to use it several times on her. Other people have tried it too and it really works. I hope that helps you some.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

I use a plantain salve that is olive oil, coconut oil, aloe, plantain, and lavender essential oil.  It works really well to heal it up fast.

As for her reacting to being wet.  I don't know.  The whole thing started and remained for a long time only on spots that the plastic touched her skin.  Only very recently has it 'spread' to her front (like only the last maybe two or three times it happened).  I had thrown the whole yeast thing around in my mind, and I don't know if that is an issue or not.  But, I am strongly considering doing the kefir or yogurt thing.  Up until this point she has been exclusively breastfed, so she is not accustomed to any other 'food'.

As for cornstarch, doesn't that aid yeast?  My mom was told to stay completely away from yeast because she had yeast issues.  But, I am no expert on yeast... yet.  Wink

I am definitely going to try the wool cover.  Thanks RB for giving me direction in that way.  I have my eye on two different covers... I just have to break down and part with the $$$  Cry

You don't want to eat cornstarch because it's sugar, but I've personally never had issues using it to make the area dry.  Yeast needs moisture and less oxygen to thrive, so the dryer and airier the better.  Also, your salve contains at least 3 antifungals so if it's healing it, it still could be yeast related.
