  Calcium Deposits
« on: August 07, 2006, 01:50:29 PM » by AndysJess
I am not sure if this goes under Men's Health or not, but here goes.  A few years ago, my husband noticed a lump in his lower back.  Being a VERY manly man, he wouldn't go get it checked out until he found another one a couple of inches below his left nipple.  Of course, I freaked out.  He went to the doctor and was told it was just calcium deposits.  They told him that they could remove them, but they would just come back.  You know, treating the symptom but not the cause.  My husband, not wanting to go through unnecessary surgery, declined.  Since then, the lumps have grown, and he is developing more.  It bothers me a lot more than it does him, I think.  Obviously, it is signaling some kind of imbalance.  My question is:  is there something he can do to make them go away and prevent new ones from coming back.  He does not drink milk or take calcium supplements.  He has finally agreed to start taking Superdad, but they don't have calcium in them, I don't think.  Any info or advice would be welcome.

Personally, I think I would try magnesium supplements and cod liver oil.  Cod liver oil is reputed to be good for reversing arthritis which is connected to calcium deposits and magnesium helps the body to absorb and use calcium.  Get some sun too.  Vitamin D produced from exposure to sun also helps calcium absorbtion.

For my husband and uncle pushing hard on the calcium deposit caused it to go away.  This was painful, however it worked for them.  Apparently it was recomended by my uncles doctor.

I have one of these on the joint at my wrist and I read it is a build up of toxins. I have been told that after doing a master cleanse it would go away, but I am nursing and unable to do the master cleanse yet!! But there have been quite a few success stories I read about where the went away completely after the ten day cleanse!
they are also called bible cysts b/c the remedy was squishing them w/ a bible or large book and they would pop and go away, but normally return in time. Anyway, hope this helps!!

This might soud funny,  but many calcium deposits are caused by... lack of calcium. I don't think most MD's will tell you this just because it is non-intuitive, but the vast majority of Americans are Calcium deficient, and calcium deficiency can cause bone spurs, kidney stones and calcium deposits. I believe I read a great actidle about this in the Life Extension Foundation magazine. The next most important issue (presuming that you are not Calcium deficient) is probably an imbalance of Calcium and Magnesium in the diet... so try to increase magnesium rich foods. Also (I don't know the "why" here) but evidently a lack of vitamin K can also cause calcium deposits... eat a lot of leafy greens!

For most people, the easiest remedy is to take a a cal-mag supplement like Bone Ami... or any one that you can find that also contains Boron and vitamin D.

Otherwise, you will want to eat a lot more greens... especially spinach, turnip greens, brocolli, etc. Then reduce protein intake: fewer meats, eggs, cheeses, etc.

Ok I am reviving this thread.  I am asking for ideas and outlining a plan of treatment for myself to try and disolve a calcium deposit and ideas on why my body tends to oxicilate calcium.

I am 27 years old in good health I have no chronic conditions I am aware of nor do I suffer chronically from any pain or infirmity.  I have 3 children and for the last 4 years I have been pregnant or nursing constantly.  I have a fairly large calcium deposit on me left leg above the knee joint (it does not bother the knee join itself).  The deposit has been there since I was around 10-12 years old.  It has been known to shrink or enlarge some but not noticeably and has been pretty static for some time.  My interest in getting rid of it stems from recently taking up somewhat competitive cycling and after harder rides my left quad muscle aches and does not seem able to bear as much strain as my right.  I have spoken with an MD and a chiropractor about it and they both say that it is likely I had some kind of trauma to the muscle (considering the activity level of my childhood this is very likely) and my body ended up inapropriatly using calcium to repair the muscle where it meets the bone.

I have had 2 Kidney stones, one after the birth of my second child and one in the late third trimester with my 3rd child.  The adjustments I have made to avoid further kidney stones are taking calcium ONLY in the form of calcium citrate balanced with the appropriate magnesium and I also try to get as much calcium from my diet as possible in the forms of green leafy veggies, herbal tea mix, and to a lesser degree goats milk kefir and yogurt.  I have successfully dissolved one of my kidney stones by drinking fresh raw lemon juice.  I do not drink high oxcilate beverages or sugary drinks that would make me high risk for kidney stones (I dislike pop, don't drink coffee) and I try to get my Iron from green sources such as leafy veggies and spirulina.

My present plan of action is to:
1. measure the calcium deposit so I can monitor it's size.
2. try to drink the fresh juice of 1/2 a lemon 4-6 times a week.
3. Increase my calcium intake through drinking a high calcium tea mix (oatstraw, horsetail, alfalfa, nettles, spearmint) as a significant part of my beverage intake.

My ponderings on the underlying issue.  My body tends to oxcilate calcium, there is a family history of other 'stone producers' but I am wondering what system of my body is week that would tend to bind calcium like this???  I need to figure out what systems, hormones, etc deal with the process of assimilating calcium into my body properly and which one is suspect of not functioning properly.  Any body have some ideas or thoughts or know some anatomy that would help me here??

Thanks,
Heather

Well, it's been a while since anyone's posted on this thread, but I have a question so I'm gonna get it going again!!  Tongue  My mom has a pinched nerve in her lower back that an MRI showed a build up on the bone around where the nerve comes out at the side. The Dr. didn't say that it was calcium, but that's what I assume it is because I don't know of anything else that builds up on your bones. Anyway, she can have surgery to scrape it out, but there's the chance that it will come back so the surgery will have to be repeated to continue the pain relief. This is really bad for her. She can barely do anything without flairing her back up and they she's miserable. I mean miserable too....I've never seen my mom this way. So I didn't know what all she needed to do to help reverse it. My thoughts were: decrease the amount of meat she eats, take a multi vit/mineral (how much cal. , mag. , vit. D and vit. K would be needed?), eat more fruits and veggies. Any other recommendations. Also, would an inversion table help her. She has 6 lumbar vertebra rather than the normal 5 so she does have less space there based on that. Thanks for the help!!!

I have a friend who is scheduled for a small surgery to remove a calcium deposit on her forehead from a car accident bruise.  I'm giving her Young Living's essential oil blend called R.C. which contains three kinds of eucalyptus, myrtle, pine, marjoram, lavender, cypress, tsuge, and peppermint.  Balsam fir is also supposed to be very good for dissolving calcium deposits, but I don't have it on hand to try it out.  She's scheduled for the surgery in a few weeks, so I'll let you know if it makes significant improvement before then.
