Sloshing and Crackling Behind Ear Drums

My dd (13) has had a ear problem for about 3 weeks now. We thought she just had water in her ear but its been so long now im not sure. She says it pops and crackles when she swallows, and when she lays down she can hear it sloshing and whenever she chews it feels like she is in a box/bubble because she can hear herself chewing..KWIM?

Also she has had a cough for about 3-4 weeks now. It gets better then bad again. Im not sure if these two are connected or what. Her ear is starting to hurt a little so im wondering what i should do for it. Right now we are letting some garlic sit in warm EVOO and we are going to put it in her ear. Should i take her to the doctor or is there something else i can do?

I used to get this. It may sound odd, but when I started drinking a lot of water it pretty much went away.

Maybe it's an allergy thing though. For me- mold. I've talked to several people who think it's an allergy thing when their ears feel funny.

Being dehydrated and dealing with lot's of humidity make me have a hard time breathing and do these same weird things to my ears. I also tend to have a blood volume problem. I drink about three quarts of water a day when I'm not nursing, and this seems to take care of it. More water=more blood volume=more efficient oxygenation of cells. Still haven't figured out what it has to do with my ears though.

Hollyolly, as far as drinking enough water preventing it, most likely it's helping because when you are dehydrated the fluid & gook in your sinuses & ears gets thicker so it doesn't drain as well. More water = thinner secretions = better drainage = the Eustachian tubes don't clog up. HTH Blessings ~herbalmom
